Umubano has gone through difficult times in recent years. Two main problems that have been experienced and are still hindering sustainability of the organisation are worth mentioning.

In November/ December 2006 a few members were taken into custody by the Home Office. Since then their cases are still being examined by relevant UK authorities. In the meantime, families of the detainees are hold in limbo by not knowing the outcome of current judiciary process.

In 2007, relations between Umubano and Praxis have evolved at the expense of the former. In from the inception of the organisation in 1998 Praxis had been the umbrella agency under which Umubano had always operated.

Despite these difficulties members of the community are committed to revive their organisation. A new team of trustees and a coordinator were elected last November. Support from different sources is being sought for.

The New Year Celebration planned to be held on Saturday 26/1/08 is part of Umubano’s rebirth process. At that occasion the organisation website will be relaunched.
